A major new web series has been launched today by Adam Blanshay Productions and The Theatre Cafe. The Theatre Channel showcases classics from musical theatre in a variety of settings for the digital age, so fans can enjoy their favourite songs and stars from the comfort of home.
In this opening episode – available for £12 – performances can be enjoyed from Carrie Hope Fletcher and Oliver Ormson, Lucie Jones, Jodie Steele, Jenna Russell, Tarinn Callendar and Matt Henry.
Purchasers can enjoy multiple viewings of the show with vibrant high definition performances. The production values are extremely high with excellent camera and sound work.
With the next performance – an extended Halloween special launching 30 October – already on sale – these may be just the ticket for those in your life missing a bit of West End sparkle, or to treat yourself as we head into darker nights.
Episode 1 runs just over 25 minutes and features songs from a shows including Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Cabaret, Company, Violet, Little Shop of Horrors and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Many of the performances are ably supported by the Cafe Four (Alyn Hawke, Emily Langham, Sadie-Jean Shirley and Alex Woodward) who open proceedings with an ensemble piece from 70 Girls 70.
As befits a theatre sector still trying to get back on its feet, I enjoyed the attempts to do something a bit different: Steele’s PVC-clad Judas pacing the roof of the cafe chiding Jesus for his ambition is certainly novel. This new initiative is a chance for performers to come back and shine.
