There was a double win for casting director Jessica Ronane and casting associate Abby Galvin at the Casting Directors’ Guild’s CDG Casting Awards 2021.
The team won in the Best Casting in Regional Theatre category for A Monster Calls (The Old Vic on tour) and for Girl from the North Country at the Gielgud Theatre (Best Casting in Musical Theatre).
Jessica Ronane said:
“These shows have been career highs for me. Having been fortunate enough to work in-house at The Old Vic for the last six years I know that these productions are only made possible because of creative collaborations allowing for long developmental periods.”
In addition, Stuart Burt came out on top in the Best Casting in Theatre section for Cyrano de Bergerac at the Playhouse Theatre.
The online awards ceremony marked the third year of the awards which recognise and celebrate the artistry of casting across film, TV, theatre and commercials.
Victor Jenkins, chair of the Casting Directors’ Guild, said: “Like all walks of life, the entertainment industry is forging on under the most extraordinary circumstances. The nominations here reflect the wonderful work done pre and during the pandemic, and the theatre categories in particular are a salient reminder of the power and wonder of the stage. Congratulations to the winners and all our nominees”
The nominated productions premiered between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020 and were selected by members of the Casting Directors’ Guild in partnership with Spotlight.
